Bill to help inclusion of Muslims in OBC gets nod

With the aim to enable the West Bengal Commission for Backward Classes to examine any reference from the state government regarding inclusion or deletion of any backward group in and from the list of backward classes respectively, the state government on Tuesday introduced the West Bengal Commission for Backward Classes (Amendment) Bill, 2010, in the Assembly, which was also passed.

STF arrests 4 suspected Maoists arms suppliers

The state CID on Tuesday arrested five Maoists — Madhusudan Mandal, 44, Sachin Ghoshal, 42, Rajesh Mandal, 19, Siddhartha Mandal, 36, and Sanjay Mandal, 42 — from South 24 Parganas. While Madhusudan, alias Narayan, had spearheaded the Nandigram movement in 2007 from behind the scenes, Sachin is a senior member of the Maoist technical wing. All five have been booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
