Mounting pressure on the Centre over the Telangana issue, Andhra Pradesh endowments minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Friday sent his resignation letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, saying it was a “sacrifice” for the sake of a separate state.

Unhappy over the delay in the formation of a separate Telangana state, a minister in Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Thursday sent his resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Other ministers and MPs from the region said they would decide on whether to quit after meeting the central leadership.

The passengers arrived at Secunderabad from other places and there were also many waiting for their trains since Monday night. Telangana activists on Tuesday brought train services in Telangana to a halt as they blocked rail tracks all over the region. As a result, five long-distance trains were stopped at various stations for 12 hours by the authorities and six express trains were detained by agitators.

The movement for separate statehood to Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh is set to further intensify with an apex body of activists planning an Egypt-like protest in Hyderabad in March.
