Union minister Beni Prasad Verma on Saturday hit out at Baba Ramdev for playing politics, saying the government’s negotiators should not hold talks with him.
Saying that Baba Ramdev’s hungerstrike is “sponsored by the BJP”, he said: “There is no need to talk to Baba Ramdev who has been backed by the BJP in his hungerstrike.”

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Saturday went on the backfoot as the government released a handwritten letter signed by his close aide Acharya Balkrishna in which it is claimed that an agreement has been reached and the agitation would be limited only to “tap” (meditation) for three days beginning June 4.

After cracking down on Baba Ramdev's agitation, the police today banned him from entering Delhi for the next 15 days and justified its action saying the organisers did not restrict themselves to a yoga camp as orginally permitted but resorted to a political agitation and made provocative speeches.

The battle lines were drawn clearly between the government and Baba Ramdev on Saturday with the yoga guru struggling to explain a letter signed by one his aides that assured that the agitation would be called off by Saturday afternoon.

Some in the group of about six uniformed police officials that included SP Garima Mallik, who were present at the spot where a Bihar boy hit by a bullet in police firing and lying motionless was kicked repeatedly by a Home Guard jawan, were encouraging the jawan, saying “Maar saale ko (Hit the damned fellow).”
