Yash Birla to set up silicon plant
Hyderabad, July 16: The Yash Birla Group has proposed to set up Rs 9,000 crore polysilicon manufacturing facility in Kurnool district.
A delegation led by group chairman, Mr Yash Birla, will meet the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, on Saturday to discuss the investment proposal.
Though the delegation was scheduled to meet the Chief Minister on Friday, the meeting was cancelled because the latter went to attend a book release function.
Sources said the delegation met principal secretary (industries), Mr B. Sambob, to seek assured water supply from the river Tungabhadra since it is a water intensive project.
Explaining the reasons for choosing Kurnool, Mr Birla said there is huge availability of the raw material in the surroundings of Kurnool. As the transporation of the raw material to another place is expensive, the company preferred to set up the facility in Kurnool itself, he pointed out.
The second reason, according to officials, is that there is requirement of hydrochloric acid which is available in Rayalaseema Alkalies situated in Kurnool.
Sources said the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastr-ucture Corporation agreed to provide 600 acres near Vorvakallu.
Mr Sambob assured to explore the possibilities of providing water after holding consultations with the irrigation department.
