Sensex down 365 pts, rupee slides further
Aggressive selling by FIIs on Wednesday after a disappointing manufacturing survey from China and weaker US growth pulled down both the Sensex and Nifty to their two-year closing lows.
The Sensex fell for the ninth time in the past 10 trading sessions, closing below the psychological 16,000 level at 15,699.97, losing 365.45 points (2.27 per cent). The Nifty tumbled 105.90 points (2.20 per cent) to close at 4,706.45.
The rupee, meanwhile, closed at an all-time low of 52.37 against the US dollar, down by another five paise as FIIs sold equities worth `1,186.42 crores, the provisional figures from the stock exchanges showed.
