Sensex closes 215 points lower

A benchmark index for Indian equities markets on Tuesday closed 215 points lower amid negative global cues.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,540.55 points, closed at 17,489.95 points (provisional), down 215.06 points or 1.21 per cent from its previous close at 17,705.01 points.

The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also ended lower, 72.85 points or 1.37 per cent down at 5,253.75 points.

Broader markets also ended in the red with the BSE 500 index closing 0.97 percent down. The BSE midcap index closed 0.69 per cent lower, while the BSE smallcap index ended 0.56 per cent down.
