PM is ready to probe 2G row
The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh on Monday said that he will take action against telecom minister A. Raja if he is found guilty by the CBI.
“Our government has been clear that corruption is a problem. If I come to know that there is any involvement at any level in corruption, we will take action,” said the Prime M
inister in reply to a question on allegations of scam in allocation of 2G spectrum in 2008. He said that as CBI is looking into these allegations, it would not be proper for him to express any “definitive opinion”.
Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, the Union communications minister, Mr A. Raja, said that he would not shy away from any investigation following allegations of corruption in the allocation of 2G spectrum.
The telecom minister claimed that all rules and recommendations set by TRAI were followed while allocating 2G spectrum, and he was being targeted as he had been instrumental in breaking the cartel in the domestic telecom sector.
In 2008, telecom ministry had given new licenses to companies at old prices. What raised eye brows was that within months of receiving licences, these companies sold stake to foreign firms at huge valuations.
