Moto Show 2012: Chennaiites to get first look at international 2-wheeler brands
The Chennaiites can look forward to a display of latest two wheelers from international stables this month. The Indo Malaysia chamber of Commerce (IMCC) is organising Moto Show 2012 at Chennai Trade Centre from June 22-24. The event will also have an exclusive workshop for automobile and mechanical engineering and diploma students.
“While Honda will launch a new bike in Chennai during the show, a Korean company has also evinced interest to display its Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh worth bikes at Moto Show 2012. This apart a few other top companies are also expected to take part in the event,” said J. Selvakumar, president, IMCC. He said the leading car manufacturers like Volkswagen, Mitsubishi, Mercedes Benz, BMW and Ford would also participate in the fair.
The bikes at Moto Show would be marketed in Chennai by Easwari Motors, who became famous for successfully marketing the Kinetic Honda.
To be held in the city for the first time, the event is mainly focussed on students. “We want to create awareness about job opportunities in the automobile sector. We also would provide guidance on what type of projects the diploma and engineering students should undertake to get a job in this industry,” said Mr Selvakumar. “We have sent invites to 906 engineering colleges and we expect a minimum of 200 students to attend the expo per day,” he added.
This apart the organisers are also holding a paper presentation competition on varied topics including environmental friendly vehicles, alternative fuels, electric and hybrid vehicles, oil control technology and safety systems. The online contest is expected to attract 750 papers. Those interested can log on to www.motoshow.in.
As a prelude to the Moto Show 2012, a logo unveiling ceremony would take place at Vijay Park on June 5, where leading actors like Bharath. Srikanth and Namita would participate. A walkathon has also been planned on June 10 at Marina Beach, where about 500 students are expected to take part.
