Infy to hire big for China facility
Oct. 21: Bengaluru-based Infosys Technologies is planning to beef up employee numbers in China from the present 2,850 to 4,000 this year, said CEO and managing director Mr Kris Gopala-krishnan. The Chinese headcount could cross 20,000 at some point in the future, he predicts, with the company planning to invest about $100 million in the country over the next few years.
“We now see the need to create a campus there and this is what we have initiated and are in discussions with the government there about getting land. And after we get the land, we will plan to build the facility,” Mr Gopalakrishnan told reporters on Thursday.
The proposed centre, which would come up in Shanghai, would have the capability to execute any project similar to Infosys’ centres in other cities, he added. The company plans to tackle attrition by handing out promotions to 12,000 of its employees in October, which would be accompanied by pay hikes. Mr Gopalakrishnan belie-ves the attrition rate has gone down since the last quarter and is likely to stabilise during the next quarter.
Mr Gopalakrishnan attributes the recovery of the market for the surge in job creation. “Across the board, attrition has gone up. This is a result of growth coming back. We were not prepared or ready to take advantage of this growth. There was a scramble in recruitment across the companies which resulted in movement of employees from one firm to another firm,” the Infosys CEO says.
