Food inflation falls to 13.1 per cent
New Delhi: India's annual food inflation dropped by nearly four percentage points to 13.07 percent for the week ended January 29 - the lowest level in nearly one-and-a-half months - on decline in the prices of pulses, potatoes and wheat, according to official data released on Thursday.
Food inflation has declined after two consecutive weeks of sharp rise. Food inflation was 17.05 per cent for the week ended January 22 and 15.57 per cent during the previous week.
On an annual basis, pulses became cheaper by 8.63 per cent. Price of potatoes declined 8.87 per cent and wheat became cheaper by 3.58 per cent, according to the commerce and industry ministry data.
The annual inflation for primary articles declined to 16.24 per cent as against 18.44 per cent in the previous week.
However, prices of onion and some vegetables continue to remain high. Onions remained 78.64 per cent costlier. Prices of fruits rose 10.46 per cent and milk 11.66 per cent year-on-year.
