What Kat wants from 2012

Most of her contemporaries face a tremendous amount of pressure to live up to their lineage. But not Katrina Kaif. The girl who walked into Bollywood with virtually no connections, has long since moved beyond the debacle of her debut Boom. 2011 has only seen her cement her position in the industry as one of the most sought after actresses for filmmakers. But this is only the beginning, says Kat.
The coming year will see her work with the three Khans: Aamir, Shah Rukh and Salman. “I’m expecting a lot from 2012,” Katrina says. “The three films that I’ll be working on have Yash Chopra as the producer and Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh as my co-stars. But pairing with the Khans wasn’t the result of any strategy. It was all preset for me. All I had to do is go with the flow.” But does she look at working with the legendary Yash Chopra and SRK as a turning point of sorts? “Yashji is the biggest name in the industry and Shah Rukh is one of the best actors — you can’t get bigger than that! I feel really fortunate about being in the right place at the right time,” Kat says.
Good work isn’t all that Kat’s hoping for in 2012 though. “I’m also looking forward to good health and peace of mind,” she says, flashing her lovely smile. And what about love? The fact that she’s working with former beau Salman in Ek Tha Tiger has lots of tongues wagging. “I’m single,” Kat asserts. “Not dating anyone, and totally focused on work. I’m happy in my space and Salman’s happy in his. I’d like to leave it at that.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
