‘We’re fast and impatient’
Sonam Kapoor’s penchant for the old world charm seems to go beyond her love for vintage couture. The actress, who is very familiar with the old classics of Bollywood, says that she misses the grace and finesse in the song and dance sequences of the bygone era. Recently, at an event to honour late lyricist Kaifi Azmi, Sonam said, “I love all the songs from Kaagaz Ke Phool but Chalte Chalte from Pakeezah is my all time favourite.”
Recalling Meena Kumari from Pakeezah, Sonam says, “I remember when I saw it for the first time, Meena Kumari just walks in that song. There is a little music piece and she looks at all the people sitting there … she just looks at them, it is one shot. And then the song starts. That kind of thehraav (serenity) and nazaakat (delicacy) is missing in today’s songs and films. We are a faster generation — we are impatient and that beauty is lost to us.”
Wise words we must say.
