There’s no mending this fence

In Bollywood, the lines between friends and foes are constantly blurring, but if there’s one man who believes in maintaining the status quo, it’s Vikram Bhatt. Years after his falling out with Aamir Khan over Ghulam, the director maintains, “I don’t see myself working with Aamir again.”
Vikram however explains that while he still shares a great friendship with the actor, the two have agreed to disagree where their work philosophy is concerned. “I have a lot of respect for Aamir; he is my friend. But it’s not possible for us to work together. Aamir makes films that revolve around him, while my films are more subject-oriented. I have moved to another level with my filmmaking and so has he,” Vikram says.
Indeed, after a process of trial and error, Vikram recreated the phenomenal success he enjoyed with Ghulam, with thrillers like Raaz and Haunted — a genre different from the one Bollywood has chosen to follow for the most part. Vikram’s films have also not had too many big marquee-names. But the director says that is just a matter of chance. “It is not that I don’t want to work with big stars,” he asserts. “I just cannot sit idle, waiting for their dates. Anyway I think a script is the biggest star.” We’re sure Aamir agrees.
