Suniel to reprise Gopi
Nearly two decades after Gopi Kishen became the surprise of 1994, Suniel Shetty is all set to reprise the character in the remake of the film. Down the years, there have been several talks of the film being remade, but there hasn’t been a concrete outcome yet. However, the actor and the film’s writer Anees Bazmee are reportedly quite keen on ensuring it releases in cinemas again.
Bazmee, who is currently busy shooting for his upcoming directorial venture Thank You, will tackle the Gopi Kishen remake later. Suniel is likely to play the character of Gopi again. “Suniel has never forgotten the role Gopi Kishen played in his career. It was one of his first big hits and it came when he had just started out in Bollywood. In fact, even in Thank You, Bazmee has a character who has incorporated the childish elements of Gopi,” a source attached to the film informs.
These childish traits, the source adds, endear Shetty’s character to the audience in Thank You as well, despite his philandering ways. “And just like Shilpa Shirodkar henpecked him in Gopi Kishen, we have Celina Jaitley calling the shots in Thank You as well.
Bazmee confirms the news of there being a character in Thank You being drawn along the lines of Gopi. “That is one character that Suniel and I have always remembered down the years. We wanted it to be re-enacted for long and when the opportunity came with Thank You, we went ahead with it,” Bazmee laughs.
