Stuntdog Millionaire

Neil Nitin Mukesh, who will be seen doing bike stunts in his forthcoming movie Lafangey Parindey, has a word of caution for youngsters watching the movie, by asking them to avoid performing such stunts especially on the city streets.

The movie has Neil riding an R-1 Yamaha 1000cc bike, and he, along with many others, performed death defying stunts on the streets of Mumbai. “I had to do a lot of wheelies on the bike. Personally, I feel one needs to have a lot of discipline and focus to pursue stunting. And I wouldn’t recommend kids to even try it,” advises the actor.
But this movie was certainly not the first time that Neil tried out bike stunts. “I have done stunts on stage for shows where I had to break through four pieces of glass and jump overhead. It’s not that I wasn’t nervous. But at the same time, I’d like to tell youngsters that all this is fun in stage shows and movies, but that is only because we take a lot of safety precautions. There are stunt directors who are around to take care of us and make sure we are safe,” he says.
He also added that the stunts were a great learning experience for him. “It tunes your mind and prepares you to be strong. I learnt to focus a lot better,” he said.
Incidentally, Neil’s parents never let him ride a bike earlier. “Until three years ago, I didn’t know how to ride a bike. I learnt it for my shoots. Only after doing the shoot, I called my parents and told them that I have performed stunts,” he says.
He also added that although he enjoyed riding his bike, he’ll never risk doing stunts on real city roads. “I don’t want to do it. I will never advise anybody else to do it,” he said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
