Song and dance action
Why should item girls have all the fun? While filmmakers of late have been trying every trick in the book to make their Shielas, Munnis and Jalebi Bais grab audience attention, director Rohit Dhawan is moving down a slightly different path. For Desi Boyz, an elaborate title song has been created for Akshay Kumar, at a cost of `3 crore, and shot extensively in Thailand.
While Desi Boyz is basically a family entertainer, the title song has been shot as an extended action sequence and a source says, “Akki’s fans will love his avatar in the track, which features everything from burning warehouses, choppers, high speed jets and superbikes. It has been composed by Pritam.”
Even as one wonders what an action sequence (albeit in song form) is doing in an outright entertainer, our source says that it is meant to cash in on Akki’s reemergence as an action star: “There is still a bit of wait for Akki’s action roles in Rowdy Rathore and Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2. So he thought it would be great to incorporate some action in Desi Boyz as well.”
Rohit on his part, assures us that the song will not look out of place. “It will play out at a crucial juncture in the film, and you will see that the expense has been more than worth it,” he asserts. Other sources from the set tell us that the styling for the song seems to have worked out really well, with great attention being paid to Akki’s costumes.
As long as we get to experience a visual extravaganza starring our favourite action hero, we’re not complaining!
