Sonakshi in Munni mode

She played a shy girl in Dabangg and one that hardly saw her naughty side. However, for Joker, Sonakshi Sinha was sure that she wanted to get rid of her coy image. So the moment director Shirish Kunder explained to her that she had to get into the jhatak-matak mode for one of songs in the film, Sonakshi was all game. And the makers were only too happy with the results, as Sona wowed everybody with her moves.
Informs a senior crew member, “She was appreciated in Dabangg but didn’t have a popular song to her credit. Instead it was Malaika Arora Khan who walked away with all the honours, courtesy Munni.”
So, if Sonakshi felt the need for some number where she could let her hair down, and become the next Munni, Joker had all the answers for her. The song titled Dance Karle English Mein, comprises lyrics in in ten languages and promises to be high on drama.
But when contacted, director Shirish didn’t take too kindly to the comparisons being made to Dabangg and Munni. “Our film is in no way similar to Dabangg. You should not make comparisions just for the sake of it,” he retorted. Shirish also asserted that Dance Karle English Mein is not a song that has been injected into the film as an item number: “It is there because it takes the story further. Every film has its own subject requirements and Joker is no exception. We are not trying to replicate Munni here.”
We don’t know if Shirish’s claims are totally honest. But we are sure that Sonakshi is loving the opportunity to show off some Munni moves.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
