Salman, the string puller

The cast of Housefull 2 has finally been decided upon. Asin Thottumkal, Zarine Khan and Jacqueline Fernandes complete a beautiful triumvirate, but speculations have already started making the rounds over whether Salman Khan had any role to play in deciding the line-up. Salman, it’s said, used his close proximity with the producer of the franchise Sajid Nadiadwala to get director Sajid Khan to rope in Asin and Zarine for the film.
“Salman has worked with Asin in London Dreams and Zarine in Veer. Since neither film did very well, he took up responsibility for the leading ladies’ fate as well. Salman has since been recommending both Asin and Zarine to his close friends and associates,” says an industry insider.
“Since Salman and Sajid Nadiadwala are thick friends, it is open to anyone’s speculations that how the cast of Housefull 2 must have been put together.” Jacqueline, meanwhile, was a straight forward entry into the cast, since she had done an item number in the original film.
Nadiadwala, meanwhile, denies that Salman had anything to do with the film’s final cast. He says, “How can you say that? From where do you hear such theories? Can you ask those who are spreading these rumours to check the facts with me? Sajid Khan and I have put together the cast by ourselves entirely; there is no external influence.”
Opening up further, Sajid says, “I liked Asin in Ghajini and that had come even before London Dreams. As for Zarine, I knew her before she came in films. We are family friends and our parents are quite close to each other. Jacqueline, meanwhile, was an automatic choice because she was quite professional during Housefull.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
