Readily going gaga over Salman

Salman, Salman, and more Salman … all Ready and raring to go. So concentrated is the promotion of Ready on the Dabangg Khan, that the female protagonist of the love story has paled somewhat into the background. But is leading lady Asin quite sanguine? “No, I am not unhappy with Salman hogging the Ready limelight. He is, after

all, the main protagonist and he is also at an all time peak! Ready revolves around him; he shoulders the responsibility of the entire film and I get to enjoy all the benefits when it turns out to be a success. Isn’t it fabulous?” she giggles. Asin went through the same experience with the Aamir Khan blockbuster Ghajini, where Aamir dominated the promotions.
“See, masala films usually revolve around a hero and hence, the promotions are also centred on him. I have been in the industry long enough to understand this,” says Asin, who is making a comeback of sorts after London Dreams.
Asked if she ever felt cheated of all the promotional action, she says coolly, “A film has to be marketed for what it is and the way it has been made. I understand the reasons for someone being in the forefront or asked to take a backseat. I can’t be silly and immature by throwing tantrums in such matters.”
Asin’s positive attitude seems to have found her many professional admirers and she has been much in demand. Not only was she the first choice for Wanted and Main Aur Mrs Khanna, word is that she is all set to star opposite Akshay Kumar in Sajid Khan’s Housefull 2.
Asked about these offers, Asin says, “Let me not even comment on whether these rumours are true or not because it is only going to lead into further questions. Let’s talk about the present and the future and ignore the past.”
Still, how about setting the record straight? Will she be seen in a dare-bare avatar or not? “Well, let people keep wondering if that would happen or not. Don’t you think it is too early to spill the beans?” she laughs.
Asin is one of the few leading ladies who has been repeated by Salman in recent times. No wonder then that she is happy with the vibes they share.
“When you spend so much time with a co-star on the sets, you need to be very comfortable with him,” smiles Asin. “He tracked my work down South and has seen many of my films. He is very fond of me and I consider myself quite lucky to be his leading lady in two consecutive films.”
So, more promotions or less, Asin is certainly toasting the future of the Ready love
story.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
