Rajat’s red carpet reception

Anurag Kashyap’s Udaan was the only official entry at Cannes from India this year. But surprisingly, the lead star of the film, 17-year-old Rajat Barmecha, was unaware of how he should dress for the red carpet. Rajat apparently thought the cast and crew always dress up casually, no matter what the event, and had simply not carried any appropriate red carpet attire.
Anurag too found out only a few hours before the cast was due to appear on the red carpet about Rajat’s clothes fiasco. He immediately got in touch with designer Narendra Kumar and arranged for a classy tuxedo for Rajat. The team then walked the red carpet in style, earning a standing ovation after the film was screened.
“All of us were walking the red carpet at Cannes for the first time. Rajat had not carried any appropriate clothes. Luckily, we could arrange something for him. Nary (Narendra Kumar) was extremely kind to help us out,” laughs Anurag.
