‘Phata Poster has been satisfying’
Director Rajkumar Santoshi has a wide range of films to his credit — be it the dramatic Ghayal and Lajja, the comic Andaz Apna Apna and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani or the historical The Legend of Bhagat Singh. Ask him about his favourite film from all these genres and he says, “It is undoubtedly The Legend of Bhagat Singh. For the other films, I wrote the stories myself and could add the desired twists. But for Bhagat Singh, it was a real life story. I had to make it dramtic to appeal to today’s audience. It was a challenging exercise.”
After hits like Andaz Apna Apna and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, the director is now readying for the release of his comic caper Phata Poster Nikla Hero. Speaking about the film, he says, “This is a complete film: It has a love story, the emotional track is also strong, there is a mother-son story plus comedy, dance, fight sequences.”
Casting for the film, Mr Santoshi says, was easy. “According to the requirements of the role, Shahid (Kapoor) fit the bill perfectly. I saw Barfi! and liked Ileana’s work so we took her on board. The supporting cast is also strong. It’s been a satisfying experience.”
