A message for Salman?
Katrina Kaif is nothing if not politically correct. Despite having been involved with the one man in B’wood who seems to attract controversies like a magnet would iron filings, Kat has always conducted herself with dignity and a whole lot of tact. But this was one occasion when Kat probably didn’t think through the “diplomatic” implications of her statement.
At an event on Tuesday, the pretty Ms Kaif waxed eloquent on her Jab Tak Hai Jaan co-star, Shah Rukh Khan. If she’d been talking only of his charm or wit, it would have been one thing. But Kat chose a rather unfortunate remark to describe the King Khan. “I think Shah Rukh is the most chivalrous man I have ever met. It’s a quality that almost doesn’t exist in this industry,” she said.
Of course, as soon as the words were out of her mouth, the audience began putting two and two together: Was it not common knowledge that Kat’s former beau Salman Khan isn’t considered quite the model of chivalry towards women? Was this her way of sending a message to Salman?
But no. “Kat wasn’t trying to play one against the other,” said a friend of the actress. “Everyone knows that SRK is really considerate towards women. And Salman too is known for being great friend to those in need.”
