John clears the air about Salman
John Abraham is flummoxed. A few sentences he said at the launch of his next, Madras Cafe, have been blown out of proportion by a certain section of the media. At first it was reported that John took a dig at over-the-top portrayals of RAW agents in films by stating that “Real RAW agents don’t jump off buildings like Spiderman and neither do they show six-pack abs.” His words were twisted to make it seem like he was hinting at Salman Khan (who played a RAW agent in Ek Tha Tiger), with whom he doesn’t share the best equation. But John has something else to say.
“The only person I was referring to was myself. I wanted to say that as an actor, I couldn’t be seen jumping around or showing my six-pack abs since RAW agents are meant to be real. In fact, since there are shots of me walking in the crowd, my director Shootjit (Sircar) was very clear that I had to walk ‘unlike John’. I had to deconstruct myself and completely change my style,” he says.
As for the comparisons with Ek Tha Tiger is concerned, John says, “The two films are completely different. Salman is as large as he gets in India — I totally respect that. He is such a pleasure to watch. Our space is very different though and we are very proud of that.”
