‘I’m my own competition’

Whether it’s battling the rumours of her link-up with Ranveer Singh, which seemingly incurred papa Shatrughan’s displeasure, or shooting for her films Joker and Lootera in between walking the ramp for J.J. Valaya for the label Karmik, Sonakshi Sinha has her hands full. The actress is also soon to head off to Patiala for the shooting of Son Of Sardar. “I’m really looking forward to working with Ajay,” she says.

But her favourite co-star spot is already occupied by — no, not Ranveer — but Akshay Kumar. “It’s been a great experience working with Akki on Joker and Rowdy Rathore. He helped me a lot over the months, making the whole shooting process so very comfortable,” Sona says.
In her bagful of big-ticket films there is Dabangg 2, of which she is very proud. But quiz her about her inclusion in Race 2, and Sona clams up. “No, I am not a part of Race 2,” she says about the project she was rumoured to be actively pursuing. On the subject of Dabangg 2, Sona’s also battling talk that she’s insecure about Kareena Kapoor’s inclusion in the film, to render the follow up to the Munni song. “Every actor tries to do their job to the best of their ability,” she remarks in a dignified way. “Kareena will do justice to the song in every way. As for me, I am my own competition. ”
It’s been a long time since the original Dabangg hit the theatres. And there has been neither sight nor sound of Sona on the big screen since then. She isn’t showing signs of any nervousness though about when her next film will hit the theatres. “I think the producers of the films I am a part of will be in a better position to answer that question,” she says.
She’s not size zero, but she still manages to look lovely. Sona says, “I’m not conscious about my weight as I feel it’s just fine. But yes, I do make it a point to exercise to keep fit and healthy.”
Sona, so far, has been known for her demure onscreen avatar, and her turn on the ramp too, was in Indianwear. “Indian brands are something I feel strongly about as does every Indian woman I’m sure,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
