‘I cannot do a film like Housefull’
Versatile, spontaneous and a director’s delight, Abhay Deol has no qualms admitting that he enjoys endorsing new age cinema such as Dev D, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Shanghai and will continue to do so. After hitting the bull’s eye in off beat films such as Dev D and Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Abhay dabbled in mainstream cinema with ZNMD and found success there too.
But despite keeping his options open, Abhay knows where to draw the line. The dimpled actor says that a genre like slapstick comedy can never be his forte. “A film like Housefull is not my kind of cinema. I have a great deal of respect for these actors and filmmakers but I’d much rather do a dark comedy. I know that these films have a huge audience but for me job satisfaction is more important.”
He continues, “I am very secure as an actor. I know the kind of films and roles that suit me. I don’t mind experimenting but I cannot do a film that is beyond my sensibilities.”
Good to see someone sticking to their unique selling point.
