Golmaal 4 put on ice
The wait gets longer for fans of the hit Golmaal franchisee, with director Rohit Shetty putting off the next sequel by a couple of years. A friend of the director confirms the news, saying, “He has taken a conscious decision to put off Golmaal 4. He wants a considerable gap to come up before the next instalment, so that people wait for another laugh riot in anticipation.”
This would be the first time when Shetty has had such a long gap between two iterations of Golmaal. After the unexpected success of the first film in 2006, he released Golmaal Returns in 2008. The biggest success story, however, was Golmaal 3, which was released last year, and turned out to be the biggest money spinner of all time in the comedy genre.
“Everybody associated with Golmaal wants to set new benchmarks now,” the friend added. “The idea is to create a reasonable gap, so that people attack the film when it releases.”
Upon contacted, Tusshar Kapoor, perhaps the biggest beneficiary of the hit series, said that he is fine with the idea of a break before the next film. “In any case, I have heard that Rohit is quite busy with Singham right now. Then there are also some other films he’s planning over this year and the next. If work begins on Golmaal 4 soon, it could result in monotony and tiredness creeping in. Nobody wants that,” Tusshar said.
