A director’s choice

By now, everyone knows that Mausam was written keeping Shahid Kapur in mind. But director Pankaj Kapur has revealed that Sonam Kapoor too was his original choice to play the female lead. In fact, so convinced was he of Sonam fitting the part, that he refused to even consider any other actress for the role. “Yes, Shahid being in the film was a foregone conclusion since the film was designed with him in mind. But Sonam too was the first actress approached and signed for the film,” says the revered actor-director. Expressing the belief he had in Sonam’s ability to carry off the role, he adds, “I am sure the audience will be surprised by the kind of range that is expressed by Sonam.” With a vote of confidence like this one, we’re sure Sonam will.
