Cause men will always be Boyz
Akshay Kumar and John Abraham seem to have taken the title of their next film, Desi Boyz, a little too seriously. Akki (who is in his mid-40s) and John (who’ll touch the 40 mark in a couple of years) are playing characters at least a decade younger in the family entertainer. While Aamir Khan excelled at playing a college student in 3 Idiots, even though he is in his 40s, the more mature looks of Akki and John seemed to need a lot of work to look convincingly younger.
Says a source connected to the film, “Although it may sound like a cliché, the script — that of two young men in the UK hit by the recession — required John and Akki to ‘go young’. They won’t be going into the Ranbir Kapoor or Imran Khan mode, but everything about them, including their clothes, dialogues and body language has been worked on.”
The reduced onscreen ages of the leading men may spell no problems for Deepika Padukone (who is 25-years-old), but may mean some work for Chitrangda Singh (35). But director Rohit Dhawan says the work on the characters has all been worthwhile: “When people see Desi Boyz, they’ll see that it is as ‘young’ as you can get.” We get it Rohit!
