Anurag likes to keep it ‘short’
After his short-film offering Murabba in Bombay Talkies, Anurag Kashyap is poised to present yet another venture in a similar format — this time as a producer. The film, titled Shorts, is a collection of five short films by different directors who assisted in the making of Gangs of Wasseypur. He says, “All five short films were conceived during the making of GOW. The directors selected their own actors and then they quietly approached them and shot the films. After that Tumbhi and my company came into the picture to back them and bring to you what is now called Shorts.”
The filmmaker feels that short films are the future of the industry. “The duration of feature films is getting shorter day by day. No doubt, the audience will still watch them. But definitely short films have a broader future. They have smaller budgets unlike feature films.”
Anurag clarifies that he is not trying to create a new trend in the industry. He says, “It is not a trend, it is just an opportunity where different people are getting to showcase their work, which will then lead them to a feature film. It is a platform. They are very good short films that have already won awards internationally in the last two years.”
Speaking of his next full-length feature film, Bombay Velvet, for which he has roped in Karan Johar in a negative role, Anurag says, “The shoot starts next month. Karan has already lost 10 kilos out of the mentioned 12 kilos till now. He is on a spree of losing weight. He is still losing weight.”
