Action all the way
Filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia is on a high these days as his next film Zanjeer and its Telugu version Thoofan are up for release. Speaking of the two films, Apoorva says, “The star cast is pretty much the same except that Sanjay Dutt and Atul Kulkarni don’t feature in the Telugu version. Also, in the Telugu version we have high-speed shots and extended fight sequences that cater to the audience taste there. In Telugu films, hero worship is still prevalent.”
Most of Apoorva’s films have been action-oriented. “I like it that way,” he says. “I have never worked with an A-grade heroine except for Lara Dutta in my debut Mumbai Se Aya Mera Dost, which was her debut as well. It was great fun working with Priyanka on this one. It’s my most commercial film till date.”
A lot has been said about the film’s leading man Ram Charan Teja trying to build a perfect physique to suit the role. “He hired foreign trainers for it. In Telugu films, heroes don’t remove their shirts and there is no lovemaking either. In this film RC had to go bare-chested for a boxing scene. He kept postponing it till I told him he couldn’t grow any more muscles. He said he won’t shoot until the entire crew took off their shirts, So we all took off our shirts for that scene,” Apoorva says.
Speaking of Sanjay, who essays the late Pran’s role in the original, Apoorva says, “He has the most iconic one-liners. Now that the film is ready for release, we are missing Sanju sir.”
