Abhi sets the Ramu record straight
Who said only women engaged in catfights? The latest gupshup in Bollywood is all centered on the Ram Gopal Varma-Bachchan parivar fallout. The Bachchans have been longstanding associates of Ramu, but of late, much bitterness has passed between the two parties, allegedly triggered by some unflattering remarks the volatile
director made about Abhishek’s latest box office outing, Dum Maaro Dum. That was followed by buzz that Abhi had been replaced in Ramu’s Department by Rana Dagubatti.
A lot of speculation has since occurred: Was Ramu put off by Abhi’s less than impressive run at the box office of late? Or was it Abhi who refused to work with Ramu after being subjected to unwarranted criticism?
“Well, Ramu has been discussing Department with me for over a year now,” Abhi says. “But even while we were working out the schedule for the film, I got busy with my other releases and was not able to dedicate the required time to Ramu so we could sort out dates and have a reading of the final script.”
As Abhi tells it, Ramu waited a long time as work on Game and then DMD began: “Ramu kept waiting for me to revert, which becoming increasingly difficult keeping in mind the demands on my time for promotions etc. Finally, he decided to move on with another actor who was able to give the required time to his film. But I wish him all the best.”
All very above board, we’re sure — except for the little matter of timing...so soon after the DMD controversy.
