Abhi’s hair-raising experiments...
Actors are making all kinds of hair-raising news of late. And we mean that literally. First it was Ranbir Kapoor who was seen experimenting with the length of his hair for Imtiaz Ali’s forthcoming Rockstar. Then we heard about Ajay Devgn’s changing looks for his different roles in 2010. And now we have Abhishek Bachchan, sporting a military-style crew cut for his role as Beera in Raavan.
Abhishek’s drastic haircut has a little back-story to it. A unit source tells us that a few years ago, when the actor was selected to play the role of Lallan in Yuva, Mani Ratnam had wanted him to crop his hair to suit the part. Abhi, however, wanted to maintain his then hairstyle. “Abhishek ended up promising Mani that if they worked together again in the future, he would allow the director to cut his hair. And so, on the first day of the Raavan shoot in Kerala, Abhishek kept his promise and let Mani give him the Beera look,” the source says.
Of course, Abhishek has done plenty of experimentation for his parts, whether it was putting on weight for his role as tycoon Gurukant Desai in Guru or chopping off his hair for Raavan. Apart from this, he shed 18 kg to give off the tough air he was required to. Now that’s what we call getting into the “skin” of the character!
