Suresh ends resignation episode
Law and parliamentary affairs minister, S. Suresh Kumar, who resigned on Saturday on charges of suppressing facts while securing a ‘G’ category site, withdrew his resignation following a clean chit given by Advocate General S. Vijayshankar.
Speaking to the media at his residence on Tuesday, Mr Suresh Kumar said, “During the 2008 elections to the Legislative Assembly, I had promised voters that I will not indulge in any action which will let them down. When an allegation was made, and questions were raised about my integrity, I decided to resign.”
Meanwhile, the chief minister, state unit president and those from the organisation (RSS) requested me to withdraw my resignation. I will go and meet the chief minister, and withdraw my papers."
Asked whether the Advocate General was trustworthy and reliable, the minister shot back, “the AG is an advisor to the government. Many jurists held this post in the past, none acted under pressure or influence. So, the AG could not be influenced nor is a purchasable person.” He said he decided to return the site that caused him momentary heartburn. The minister, who appeared traumatised, and was not his witty self, said “the day before yesterday, my mother started crying at 10 pm. She was inconsolable. She felt her son was put to hardship because of her. Though I came out clean, there is no reason to keep the site that caused me unnecessary problem."
Meanwhile, RTI activist, S. Bhaskaran maintained that the AG was not an investigating agency. “This was expected. I am not satisfied. I will move the court,” he added.
