Students stranded outside exam centre
The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) was conducted in the city today and confusion reigned as students did not seem to be clear on what form of ID proof to bring with them. The exam, which was scheduled to start at 9 am, was delayed as students and parents waited at Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, one of the centres, hoping for some respite. The confusion, it turned out, was due to the fact that only valid passports are the accepted form of ID proof for the SAT.
However, there were a significant number of students appearing at the centre with expired passports or without carrying them at all. Consequently, a group of candidates and anxious parents were left in the lurch outside the exam centre while the eligible candidates waited in the exam hall till the confusion was cleared.
The exam centre was barricaded and the school authorities prevented media presence escorting journalists off the premises and going so far as to forbid candidates from being interviewed on the campus. “The paper was a good one, but we were waiting in the hall for a really long time before the test began”, said a student from T.I.S.B, who wrote the Physics test on Saturday. “There was confusion outside because some students did not have the required ID proof or were carrying expired passports”.
