State needs regional parties: Sree
Former minister turned Independent MLA, B. Sreeramulu set tongues wagging when he recently came out in support of former Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, currently under investigation for corruption by the CBI. But speaking to Deccan Chronicle on Thursday he was dismissive of all speculation regarding his new found concern for the man he was bitterly opposed to not so long ago. On a padayatra from Basavakalyana to Bengaluru , Mr Sreeramulu took time off to speak to Deccan Chronicle at Gangavati town where he received a rousing welcome from his supporters.
Excerpts:
How has your padayatra gone so far?
I have been meeting people during the padayatra and they have shared with me their agony as a result of the drought and the apathy of the govenrment in coming to their rescue. I have sincerely attempted to understand their problems.
Regional parties floated by fomer chief minister, the late S. Bangarappa and others failed to take off in the state. Why do you think your soon-to-be launched BSR party will be a success?
The political situation when Bangarappa and others floated regional parties was different. Today the state needs a regional party for its development.
What 's your take on the present crisis in the BJP?
The present government has no concern about the people and farmers. The government is counting its days and will not last long because of the internal bickering.
Will you invite former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to join your outfit if he leaves the BJP?
As the Almighty has given me the strength to fight for the cause of the people I have been doing so regardless of other issues and so I don't want to react to your question. I will also not react to your query on Yeddyurappa as he is the tallest leader in the state.
You have been criticisng Mr Yeddyurappa ever since you left the BJP. Why did you suddenly defend him on Wednesday?
I was a minister when he was the deputy CM and CM. As a human being, it is my duty to extend him moral support when he is passing through a rough time. There is no need to attach much importance to this. Moreover, Yeddyurappa has been fightng for the cause of the people for the past 40 years.
