Sharief turns heat on Rahman Khan
A day after making a veiled attack against K Rahman Khan, former Union minister C.K. Jaffer Sharief spoke up against the decision of Congress leadership to re-nominate the deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha for the fourth consecutive time.
Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday, he said it was unfair on the part of Congress leaders to give Mr Khan yet another term at a time when he had completed three terms in Rajya Sabha and one in the Legislative Council. Congress leaders ought to learn a lesson from the outcome of recent Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, he added.
Reiterating his demand for a judicial probe into encroachment of property belonging to the Wakf Board, the leader charged that the BJP government included the names Congress leaders in the report submitted by Anwar Manippady for political gains. A judicial probe should be conducted with assistance from officers of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to track down culprits who encroached on Wakf land and punish them, the leader added.
