Rs 1.87 crore looted in Dhoom style robbery
In what could be a first of its kind heist in the city, Rs 1.87 crore being transported in cash in a SUV was attacked and robbed on Monday morning in broad daylight. The daring robbery took place around 10.30 am on Monday morning in a busy street in RT Nagar, 8th cross behind BSNL office near the BDA complex, barely a stone’s throw from the RT Nagar police station, in a high security zone where several legislators live.
CMS Securitas Limited transports money from different banks to different ATMs in the city. The hired Chevrolet Tavera was blocked by another Tavera, hit by a Hyundai Verna, leaving it wide open to the attack by some 8-12 masked men who broke open the windows and windshield, snatched the money and fled.
The police suspect the role of personnel of the security firm who were carrying the cash. The police said the victims said they were attacked not with the sharp end, but with blunt edges of the weapon, causing little damage. The police said this raises doubt that the robbery was planned by persons known to the victims, which is why they were not badly injured.
