Rowdy targets realtor Pai over Devanahalli land
Mr Pai, a trustee of BMS Educational Trust, was returning home in his bullet-proof car after attending a meeting at BMS Engineering College, when some men opened two rounds of fire at the vehicle and fled, police said. Both Pai and his driver escaped unhurt, they said.
Police suspect it to be the fallout of a land dispute.
Meanwhile, a person, who claimed to be rowdy Hebbet Manja, told a regional TV channel that his men carried out the attack because Mr Pai refused his demand to give a piece of land near Devanahalli “back to the poor“. The founder of Century Group and real estate magnate P. Dayanand Pai was shot at on Wednesday evening when he was on his way to BMS College in Basavanagudi. However, he escaped unhurt.
Around 6 pm Pai was traveling in his grey bulletproof Bentley car (DL 3F GA 7777) driven by Siddaraju, when two rounds were fired at the car near the Giria’s Store close to National College flyover.
One shot hit the driver side of the windshield while another hit the rear windshield. Pai was sitting on the left side of the rear seat. However, both Pai and his driver escaped unhurt as the car was bullet proof. Pai and his driver initially thought that stones were pelted at the car and came out to take aCity Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothiprakash Mirji look. Only later did they realize that bullets had been fired at the car.
Police said the incident seemed pre-planned and the attackers knew that Pai takes the same route to reach the college every day around the same time.
Police suspect the role of rowdy-sheeter Hebbet Manja in the attack as it has been alleged that he had been threatening Pai for ransom.
