Reddy, Babu may surrender

After a marathon meeting with legal experts and relatives, imprisoned former minister Gali Janardhan Reddy’s elder brother and Bellary city MLA Gali Somashekhar Reddy and BSR Party chief B. Sreeramulu’s 29-year old nephew and Kampli MLA T.H .Suresh Babu are likely to surrender before the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Andhra Pradesh over the next two days. The ACB is probing the allegations that the judges of a CBI special court in Andhra Pradesh were bribed to get bail for Mr Gali Janardhana Reddy.

The legal experts have reportedly told the two legislators to surrender before the ACB as they are left with no other option. ACB personnel visited the residences of two MLAs and served notices asking them to appear before ACB in Hyderabad within three days. Earlier, ACB had issued a look-out-circular against the two legislators, preventing them from fleeing the country.

Top sources said Mr Somashekhar Reddy has already reached Hyderabad and holding consultations with lawyers and close relatives at his Banjara Hills residence. He is likely to surrender before the ACB by Friday.

“Mr Somashekhar Reddy handled the legal affairs of his younger brother Mr Janardhana Reddy soon after his arrest by the CBI. Now, he has to discuss with his family on handing over the responsibility to some other family member. Once the decision is taken, he will surrender before the ACB,” sources said. Mr Suresh Babu will also surrender along with Mr Somashsekar Reddy after holding consultations with Mr Janardhana Reddy, who has been lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail in Bengaluru.

In its FIR registered on June 9, the ACB stated that Mr Somashekhar Reddy, Mr Suresh Babu, Reddy’s relative Dasaratha Ram Reddy, advocate T. Aditya and retired judge T.V. Chalapathi Rao were involved in allegedly paying bribe to CBI judge Pattabhirama Rao for granting bail to Mr Janardhana Reddy. Mr Somashekhar Reddy and Mr Suresh Babu tried two separate channels to get bail for Mr Janardhana Reddy.
