Posh is all tosh, say residents
If you thought RT Nagar, Sultanpalya, Kaval Byrasandra and surrounding “posh” localities were free of problems, visiting them would soon disillusion you. Huge craters and heaps of garbage are piled up on the Kanakanagar road linking ring road and other areas. Shockingly, scores of buildings are coming up on both sides of it allegedly without a sanctioned building plan and a lot of agricultural land here has reportedly been converted for non-agricultural use without the say- so of the authorities.
“Many buildings are coming up here without a sanctioned plan from the BBMP. And, even after so many years of its formation, the BBMP has failed to provide us any civic amenities,” complains Dr Nanjundappa, a resident of Kanakanagar. Dr Srinivas Reddy, who also lives here, feels the area has suffered after the BBMP took charge of it. “The mud roads were at least pothole- free and commuters did not have to deal with so much traffic. The incomplete work on laying the tar road is causing us great inconvenience. This apart, a portion of the road, dug up for laying a sewerage pipe network by the BWSSB, has been left in mess. Not surprisingly the dug up portion developed huge craters during the rain, making it unfit for use," he grumbles.
To add to the people's misery, a railway level crossing here has neither a road- under- bridge or road -over- bridge for the convenience of commuters. So every time a train passes the level crossing is shut , leaving vehicles lined up for about two kilometers on either side waiting for it to re-open. “Our repeated request for a road- over- bridge at this point have met with no success. The BBMP has ignored our pleas for all basic amenities despite collecting a tax from us towards them. People are bound to feel cheated when they are not provided what they are paying for,” says an indignant Dr. Reddy.
