Patient dies, doctor booked for negligence
A private hospital doctor was taken into custody by Peenya police for questioning following the death of a patient allegedly due to negligence.
The police booked Dr Purad alias Mutthu under section 304 A (causing death by negligence) and took him into custody.
According to the police, the victim, Madhu Kumar (30) a resident of Kammagondi, was into private financing and his wedding was scheduled for June 5. Madhu complained of severe pain in his left shoulder around 6.40 am on Friday following which his friend Raghu rushed him to Kirloskar Memorial Hospital.
Dr Purad, who was the duty doctor, administered a pain-killing injection and prescribed some tablets after which Madhu was taken home, the police said. A few minutes later, he complained of giddiness and vomiting and fell unconscious. He was immediately rushed to the same hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
According to Dr A. Manjunath, medical superintendent, Kirloskar Memorial Hospital, “Madhu was administered a general painkiller (Diclofenac) injection, after which he walked out of the hospital. After about an hour, he was rushed to the hospital again as he complained of giddiness and numbness. However, he was dead when he arrived. There was no negligence on part of the hospital. The body has been sent for a post-mortem. We are equally curious about the cause of the death.”
The police are awaiting the post-mortem report before deciding on further action against the doctor.
