Parking lot on Brigade Rd goes
Here is another shocker for Bengaluru, which is already suffering from a severe shortage of parking space in the Central Business District and other parts of the city.
A private parking lot on the Brigade Road-Residency Road junction that could accommodate around 100 four-wheelers has been shut. A commercial complex is likely to come up in its place.
“The parking lot at the Residency Road-Brigade Road Junction was helpful. Though the parking fee was high, it helped a lot of people,” said a regular visitor, Naresh Goyal to the Deccan Chronicle.
A few years ago, the BBMP was thinking of on-street and off-street parking and to make
use of vacant spaces in the CBD to solve the problem.
Car owners are forced to park vehicles on roads and footpaths affecting the flow of traffic.
Policemen stick notices on the windshields and car drivers cannot ignore them. The driver has to go either to the police station or the court to pay the penalty, he added.
“It is necessary that the BBMP finds space for building a multi-storied parking lot in the CBD.
“Even if found, it will take at least two years to complete constructing the structure. Till then, the palike should make use of vacant spaces belonging to Christian institutions and other private bodies for parking,” Mr Goyal suggested.
