Pachau gets cracking, asks BBMP for files
The Criminal Investigation Department, probing the multi-crore bogus bill scam in three divisions of the BBMP – Gandhinagar, Malleswaram and Rajarajeshwarinagar, has sought additional information to get to the root of the scam. DG&IGP Lalrokhuma Pachau, who is also head of the CID, shot off a letter to BBMP commissioner Rajneesh Goel on September 11, seeking additional records, like the Measurement Books (MB) and files relating to civil works executed in these three divisions.
The CID will go through 2,420 files and 56 MBs in Gandhinagar, 45 files and 11 MBs in Malleswaram and 994 files and 126 MBs in Rajarajeshwarinagar. In all, the department will investigate 3,459 files and 193 measurement books. BBMP commissioner Rajneesh Goel confirmed that Mr Pachau has sought certain files from the BBMP, but refused to specify the nature of records sought.
“Also, my subordinates said the BBMP did not have any files relating to the scam. I have asked our officials to give it in writing. These letters will be sent to the Mr Pachau’s office. The BBMP has been cooperating with the agency on the investigation,” he said. The Technical Vigilance Cell under Commissioner (TVCC), during the tenure of former BBMP commissioner Siddaiah, unearthed the `1,539-crore scandal. Subsequently, the investigation was handed over to the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF). Later, the state government decided to hand it over to the CID.
The high court, following a public interest litigation, directed the BBMP to submit a report on the works executed between 2008 and 2011 in other 25 divisions. The report has been prepared and submitted to the urban development department.
