Over 7,000 write IIT-JEE in state

The IIT-JEE examinations conducted on Sunday seemed to be comparatively easier this year and went on smoothly. Chemistry paper was simple and was as per expectation, said Dr Sonar, a Chemistry tutor from a private coaching Institute. He said: “Even most of the students had the same opinion. The concept and analysis was done pretty well and different topics were covered both in Paper I as well as Paper II”.

However, compared to Physics and Chemistry, Mathematics was slightly tough. Dr V.S Godandaraman, from yet another city-based coaching institute told Deccan Chronicle: “The number of questions this year was reduced to 20, as against 22 the previous year. This gave time for the students to spend a little more time on the difficult questions. For every correct answer, three marks were alloted, and for every wrong answer, one mark was deducted.”

As far as Physics paper was concerned, this year it was not very difficult. It was comparatively easier than the previous year. Only the numerical problems in paper one were a little lengthy. “The IIT-JEE paper this year was well-designed and the results will quickly separate those who have understood the concept from those who have only focused on theory and problem-solving. The questions in the Physics paper were simple but tricky.

Both papers of Chemistry were surprisingly easy while the Mathematics paper lived up to its reputation of being lengthy and difficult. As the total number of questions was reduced, it was possible to complete the paper in the allotted time,” said Dr G. Sridhar, founder and managing director, Ace Creative Learning Pvt Ltd. More than 5.6 lakh students appeared for the IIT- JEE 2012 conducted across 1,067 centres, out of which around 7,413 students appeared from Karnataka.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
