‘Nothing wrong in kurubas projecting Siddaramaiah as CM’
KPCC president Dr G. Parameshwar is quick to dismiss speculation that his party is out to woo the Lingayats — the dominant community in the state — by getting party president Sonia Gandhi to attend the Guruvandana programme of the Siddaganga Math seer in Tumkur. He asserts that the Lingayats have never deserted the Congress as the BJP and other parties are claiming.
He also laughs at reports that BJP strongman B.S. Yeddyurappa is exploring the option of joining the Congress saying he knows nothing about it. So, what about the rivalry with Opposition leader in the Assembly Siddaramaiah who is being projected by his Kuruba community for the CM’s post? Dr Parameshwar says this can hardly be categorized as anti-party activity. “Every community has the right to express its aspirations. What’s wrong in that? We have to acknowledge their aspirations,” he said while talking to Deccan Chronicle.
