No more 2 way traffic near Garuda?
The traffic police have decided to end contra traffic in front of Garuda Mall. An increase in the number of accidents due to traffic through wrong lanes and traffic congestions have forced the police to take the decision. The traffic moves on the right in front of Garuda Mall on the Commisariat Road and the traffic police are planning a series of changes to ease the congestion. Now, the stretch between the Garuda Mall and Football Stadium will go one-way.
Deccan Chronicle has reported previously about the confusion created by the wrong direction of traffic and the congestion on this narrow stretch. “We are yet to decide the traffic management plan around Garuda Mall. We are planning for a rotary type of traffic movement around the Football Stadium. Like you have three right turns around the Kanteerava stadium, vehicles might have to take right turn to go around the stadium to reach the Commisariat Road,” said Mr M.A. Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic). The traffic around Garuda Mall has become a matter of concern for traffic police due to increased congestion. The Magrath Road is closed for over two years and the traffic which could have moved on that stretch is now moving towards the Life Style Junction.
“There was also another thinking of creating a traffic signal at the Garuda Mall junction. But that will create more congestion and might even affect the traffic near Mayo Hall on Residency Road. We are planning to provide a free right turn at the Hosmat Hospital junction so that the vehicles move without any traffic signals or crisscrossing traffic,” he said. This is the second major diversion that the traffic police are implementing in the Central Business District. Earlier this month, the police had banned the right turn on Vellara junction towards Richmond Road. This has resulted in clearing congestion on Vellara Junction where the vehicles coming from Brigade Road can easily move on the Hosur Road.
