No let-up in dissident activity in BJP
There was no let-up in dissident activity in the ruling party as a dozen unsuccessful ministerial aspirants took a decision to rock the government on Saturday.
Sources in the party said these legislators met under the leadership of former revenue minister G Karunakara Reddy at an undisclosed location to avoid the media glare.
The others include Mr Beluru Gopala Krishna and Mr M P Kumaraswamy. On his part, Mr Gopala Krishna blamed state unit president K.S.Eshwarappa and Soraba legislator Haratal Halappa for denying him a berth in the cabinet.
“They hatched a conspiracy to delete my name at the last minute and thus stunt my growth in Shimoga district. They included Kota Sreenivasa Poojary’s name in the last minute.
I am also upset with our leaders for inducting B.J. Puttaswamy into the cabinet,” he reportedly said at the meeting.
Another legislator, M.P. Kumaraswamy, spoke up against the leaders for not inducting him into the cabinet. “Our party has neglected legislators belonging to the backward classes, and offered a lion’s share to legislators belonging to Vokkaliga and Lingayat communities,” he reportedly lamented.
Meanwhile, supporters and fans of Haladi Sreenivas Shetty staged a dharna at Freedom Park for not accommodating their leader in the cabinet. Mr Belve Vasantha Shetty, an aide of Mr.Shetty, organized the protest rally in Freedom Park.
At another end of Freedom Park, supporters of Mr Karunakara Reddy held a protest rally. They arrived here from Harappanahalli, his Assembly constituency, in 30 busses.
