New men in corridors of power
K.S. ESHWARAPPA
A two time minister, Mr Eshwarappa has been elevated to the post of deputy CM after a 37 year long political career. He hails from the Kuruba community and was associated with the RSS. In 1975, he opposed the Emergency and was jailed along with several other leaders. He is the third deputy CM from Shimoga after J.H. Patel and BSY.
KALAKAPPA BANDI
This second-time MLA is a staunch supporter of Jagadish Shettar. Mr Bandi’s name had cropped up the last time the cabinet was expanded but he missed the bus. He said he was thankful to the party for the berth when there were other aspirants and said he would work to improve the image of the CM and the BJP.
SOGADU SHIVANNA
Mr Shivanna won his seat thrice in a row. A grassroot level BJP worker, he had identified himself with the Sadananda Gowda camp and is the editor of a local newspaper Sogadu. He said he was happy that the party had recognized his work and said he will work for the welfare of his home district – Tumkur.
SRINIVAS POOJARI
Mr Srinivas Poojari was a surprise choice for inclusion in the Jagadish Shettar ministry. A two time MLC, Mr Poojari is a staunch RSS loyalist and a follower of senior RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat which seems to have ensured a slot for him in the ministry.
PUTTASWAMY B.J. (MLC)
Mr Puttaswamy rose to fame after his relentless attacks on family members of former H.D. Deve Gowda. A staunch follower of BSY, he was recently suspended from the party after he filed his nomination as a rebel for the Rajya Sabha poll. He said he owed his cabinet berth to Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa.
ARAVIND LIMBAVALI
Mr Limbavali, a grassroot level BJP worker was earlier a member of the Legislative Council. A civil engineer by profession, Mr Limbavali joined politics in his student days.The staunch supporter of Ananth Kumar obviously owes his berth to his proximity to the powerful party general secretary.
RAVI C.T.
Mr Ravi hit the limelight during the Datta Peeta controversy. The MLA is close to the RSS and is presently general secretary of the BJP. He said the trouble in the party would end soon as loyal party workers had been recognized for their work. He plans to work for the development of the state.
ANAND SINGH
Mr Anand Singh was a staunch supporter of the Reddy brothers. After the arrest of mine baron and former minister Janardhan Reddy, he had identified himself with Independent MLA B. Sriramulu. Mr Singh said he had not expected a berth and added that he would do his best to serve the people.
APPACCHU RANJAN
The two time MLA from Kodagu district was an aspirant for a berth for a long time. ``I was expecting to become minister a long time ago. Due to some differences in the party, it did not happen. I will concentrate on developmental work in my remaining tenure,’’ he said.
D.N. JEEVARAJ
Hailing from the holy town of Sringeri, this second time MLA has been a ministerial aspirant for a long time. Once a staunch follower of BSY, Mr Jeevaraj is also close to Mr Sadananda Gowda but remained neutral in the recent spats. He said the blessing of Sringeri Sharadambe had earned him the berth.
S.K. BELLUBBI
The popular leader from Bijapur was identified with the anti-BSY camp for a long time. He was one of the 16 MLAs who had joined Balachandra Jarkiholi during the October 2010 revolt and was disqualified from the Assembly. After SC revoked their disqualification, he returned to the party fold.
