Was extortion a reason for the attack on the youths at the Morning Mist Home Stay in Mangalore on Saturday? Yes, according to sources, who confirm that Subhash Padil, who lead the attack on Saturday, was getting Rs 5,000 every month from the home stay. “Subhash Padil is a notorious leader who was earlier with Sri Rama Sene and was one of the accused in 2009 pub attack incident. He had to quit SRS due to some differences with its leaders and later joined Hindu Jagarana Vedike, an RSS outfit,” a leader of a saffron outfit told Deccan Chronicle.
“Parties were being held in the Morning Mist Home Stay regularly. Every month, Subhash used to collect Rs 5,000 from the home stay. But since last one month, he stopped getting this money, which annoyed him. Thus, the home stay was attacked alleging that illegal activities were taking place here,” he added.
Sources confirmed that Subhash was ousted from Sri Rama Sene for carrying out similar activities when he was with SRS. In the light of his involvement in the Amnesia pub attack in 2009, the district administration had initiated externment proceedings against Subhash Padil, Prasad Attavar and few others in February that year. But Subhash and Prasad managed to get the proceedings stayed by the court and the externment did not take place.
