Monsoon advances into state, city can expect showers soon
While the monsoon has hit only eight districts of the state so far, it may not be long before it arrives in Bengaluru too as the weather conditions are favourable, say weathermen. “The cloud cover over Bengaluru has been increasing since Wednesday. Unlike the last two days the wind speed which was not allowing cloud congregation has fallen , allowing moisture content to grow in the clouds as well,” says director-in-charge, Indian Meteorological Department, Bengaluru, B Puttanna.
The upper air circulation over the Arabian Sea is also contributing to the cloud cover and its moisture content over the city and the rest of south interior Karnataka , he explains, adding, “Over the next few days Bengaluru and its surroundings will receive moderate to heavy rainfall since the monsoon is nearing. On Wednesday it was drizzling across the city and we are expecting rains in the interior parts of Karnataka starting Thursday.” On an average the state receives 1,140 mm of rainfall annually of which 805 mm is received during the south west monsoon between June and September. Farmers are hoping for a normal monsoon although it has been delayed over much of the state.
